The Larder River property is located in Skead Township, south east of Timmins and covers an area mapped as ultramafic flows and intrusives. Management interpret that these rocks have formed in a rift system and hence is an ideally situated for Ni-Cu-PGE potential.
The primary exploration target at Larder River is a Kambalda style nickel sulphide mineralization occurring in komatiite (ultramafic) flows and sills. Kambalda-type deposits can contain very high grade nickel mineralization and may occur with copper, cobalt or PGEs) as exemplified by at Kamabla in Western Australia. Canadian examples include the Alexo open pit nickel mine located approximately 45 kilometers northeast of Timmins and Canadian Royalty’s Mesamex deposit in northern Quebec (quoted reserves 1,840,000 tonnes of 1.9 %Ni, 2.3%Cu, and 5.0 g/t PGE). Recently Golden Chalice Resources Inc announced an intersection of 72.5 meters grading 1.14% Ni on their Langmuir Property near Timmins.
