Press Release - September 4, 2003NORTHERN SHIELD DISCOVERS CHROMITITE FRAGMENTS ON NORTHERN ONTARIO PGE PROPERTY.OTTAWA, ONT. – Northern Shield Resources Inc. ("Northern Shield") (TSX-V: NRN) is pleased to announce the results of two heavy mineral samples taken on its 100% owned Highbank Lake PGE Property. This work confirms the presence of large quantities of chromite and chromitite fragments on the Property, discovered during a previous sampling programme of the OGS (up to 7,764 chromite grains in a single sample, OFR 6108). The two samples collected by Northern Shield contained significant amounts of chromite (1023 and 810 grains) as well as numerous, well-preserved fragments of chromitite that suggests a locally derived source. The samples were processed at Overburden Drilling Management’s Lab in Ottawa, Ontario. “The discovery of chromitite fragments is significant to our exploration model”, explains Northern Shield’s president, Ian Bliss. “The Property was staked in 2001 to test our theory that the nearby Fishtrap Lake Intrusive Complex is not only larger than is presently mapped but may also be well layered. If this were proven to be the case, the potential for the intrusion to host PGE-bearing chromitite layers or “reefs” exists. We’re looking for a Bushveld style of PGE-mineralization”, says Bliss, “and the discovery of chromitite fragments indicates the likelihood of a chromitite reef occurring within the Property.” Bliss also added, “These latest results are very exciting, and as a result exploration schedules are being pushed ahead to maintain the momentum of our recent success” A high-resolution airborne magnetic survey will commence over the Highbank Lake Property early next week, and will be followed immediately with ground magnetic and IP surveys. Geophysical programmes such as this have proven to be highly effective in locating PGE mineralization, and Northern Shield hopes to have a number of drill targets in the upcoming weeks. The ground geophysics will be run along 3 profiles over which 415 MMI soil samples were taken earlier this month. Results for these samples are pending. Preliminary results from the Highbank Lake property are especially encouraging, as spot platinum prices hit a 5 year high of US$707.00/ounce last week. As well, exploration is progressing rapidly on Northern Shield’s four Ontario diamond properties. Northern Shield is a publicly traded Canadian mineral exploration company (NRN:TSX-V) which believes that the key to exploration success and the creation of investor value is found in a combination of ingenuity, technical expertise and efficiency.
