NORTHERN SHIELD AND IMPALA COMPLETE FIRST PHASE OF EXPLORATION AT HIGHBANK LAKE

Ottawa (September 21, 2005) - Northern Shield Resources Inc. ("Northern Shield") [TSX-V: NRN] is pleased to announce that it has completed a helicopter-borne electro-magnetic (EM) survey over the Highbank Lake Property as well as an extensive soil sample program. The EM survey was conducted by Aeroquest Ltd of Milton Ontario using the AEROTEM II system. The data is currently being processed. Over 800 soil samples were also collected along 11 profiles designed to better define zones of anomalous platinum and palladium previously identified through soil sampling. The results of both surveys, when available, will be used to delineate drill targets.

The Highbank Lake Property covers a recently discovered layered intrusion that is being explored for reef-hosted PGEs (Platinum Group Elements) and chromium. Impala Platinum Ltd of South Africa has the Option of earning a 60% interest in the platinum rights of the Property by incurring $5 million in exploration expenditures within five years.
