NORTHERN SHIELD RECOVERS THREE MORE PGE ANOMALOUS CHROMITITE BOULDERS FROM HIGHBANK LAKE PROPERTY, NORTHERN ONTARIO

Ottawa (December 7, 2005) - Northern Shield Resources Inc. ("Northern Shield") [TSX-V: NRN] is pleased to announce that it has recovered three more chromitite boulders from its Highbank Lake PGE (platinum group element) property in northern Ontario. The boulders, weighing between approximately 2 kg and 28 kg, were discovered in overburden near the centre of the property and within 250 meters of the first chromitite boulder announced on October 19th. All three of the most recently discovered boulders returned anomalous platinum, palladium and nickel values and significant chromium. The highest PGE content was found in boulder #218753, which returned a value of 1,732 ppb (1.73 g/t) Pt+Pd+Au. The highest chromium content was found in boulder #218754, which returned a value of 27.7% Cr (See the table below for full values).

To date, Northern Shield has located four boulders containing chromitite from the Highbank Lake property. Significantly, each one shows a slightly different style of mineralization indicating there are possibly different chromitite horizons within the layered intrusion at Highbank. “The recovery of three more chromitite boulders, all of which are anomalous in PGEs, is highly motivating,” says Northern Shield president, Ian Bliss. “Chromitite layers are one of the best pathfinders for PGEs in layered intrusions and in certain other large layered intrusions elsewhere in the world, PGEs can be hosted right within such chromitite layers.” Chromite is also the source for chrome metal; a key component of stainless steel. There are currently no significant operating chromium mines in North America.

The boulders were analysed at SGS Laboratories in Don Mills, Ontario. Platinum, palladium and gold were analysed by fire assay using lead collection. All other elements were analysed by ICP-OES after sodium peroxide fusion.

The Highbank Lake property covers a recently discovered layered intrusion, which extends for approximately 500 sq km, and is being explored for reef-hosted PGEs and chromium. Impala Platinum Holdings Limited of South Africa, the world’s second largest platinum producer, has entered into an option agreement with Northern Shield pursuant to which Impala has the option of earning a 60% interest in the PGEs and PGE by-products of the property by incurring $5 million in exploration expenditures on the property within five years.
