NORTHERN SHIELD RESOURCES COMPLETES SECOND PHASE OF DRILLING AT HIGHBANK

Ottawa (October 6, 2006 - TSX:V-NRN) – Northern Shield Resources Inc. ("Northern Shield") (TSX-V: NRN) is pleased to announce that the second phase of diamond drilling at Highbank Lake has been completed. Four holes totalling 1330 metres were drilled. All samples are currently being analysed and results are pending.

The drilling was conducted by Boart Longyear using a Longyear 38 Fly-drill. The drill remains on the property in anticipation of future drilling. The drill program was supervised by Christine Vaillancourt, Northern Shield’s Chief Geologist and a Qualified Person under National Instrument 43-101.
