EXPLORATION UPDATE ON HIGHBANK LAKE

Ottawa (February 12, 2007 - TSX:V-NRN) – Northern Shield Resources Inc. ("Northern Shield") (TSX-V: NRN) announced today the results of infill sampling from its 10-hole summer program at Highbank Lake and its four-hole diamond drill program at Highbank Lake completed last fall.

The most significant mineralization of the combined programs was encountered in hole 06HB-04 where a vanadium-bearing magnetite reef was intersected. The interval has now been expanded to a width of 4.9 meters, from 174.75 – 179.68 m, which averages 0.75% V2O5, 7.56% TiO2 and >40.2% Fe, including a high-grade interval of 0.97% V2O5, 9.45% TiO2 and >50% Fe over 2.2 meters (Fe has yet to be re-analyzed at higher detection limit). Vanadium-bearing magnetite reefs are found in the upper sequences of some layered intrusions such as the Bushveld complex in South Africa.

In the four holes that were drilled in the fall phase of the drill program, no significant platinum-group element (PGE) mineralization was intersected. Important geochemical tends were identified, however, and Northern Shield intends to use such information to guide further exploration at Highbank Lake towards potentially mineralized zones. This phase of the program also tested geophysical anomalies in a different portion of the intrusion and provided important new data to help build a more comprehensive understanding of the intrusion as a whole. “We are beginning to see more clearly the shape and structure of the complex and are now able to adapt our model accordingly” said CEO and President Ian Bliss.

The diamond drill remains on site and the next phase of exploration is being discussed by Northern Shield and Impala Platinum Holdings Limited. Northern Shield also recovered another boulder containing chromitite from overburden near the center of the property. To date, this brings the number of chromite-bearing boulders discovered on the property to six. All of these boulders are anomalous in PGEs with values between 0.2 and 1.6 ppm.

The drill program and interpretation of data is being conducted and supervised by Christine Vaillancourt, Chief Geologist for Northern Shield, and a Qualified Person under National Instrument 43-101.

The Highbank Lake property covers a layered intrusion, which extends for approximately 500 square kilometers, and is being explored for reef-hosted PGE and chromium, and contact-type PGE mineralization. Impala Platinum Holdings Limited of South Africa, the world’s second largest platinum producer, entered into an option agreement with Northern Shield in the summer of 2005 pursuant to which Impala has the option of incrementally earning a 60% interest in the PGE and PGE by-products of the property by incurring $5 million in exploration expenditures on the property within five years. To date, Impala has earned a 20% interest in the PGE and PGE by-products of the Highbank Lake property by incurring $1 million of exploration expenditures.
